Programs

School Garden Program

Under the auspices of WPHA, the California Fertilizer Foundation (CFF) awards more than $30,000 in grants annually to California schools that create and maintain gardens on school grounds. Other CFF activities include informational seminars, public speaking engagements and media relations. CFF hosts an annual golf tournament, which raises more than $20,000 annually.

Annual Meeting

Each year, WPHA hosts an annual meeting bringing members together for a three-day program which includes a business session, golf tournaments, an auction, sightseeing trips and time to network with friends and colleagues. The annual meeting is usually held in the first few days of October each year.

WPH Committees

Regulatory Affairs Committee (RAC)

The RAC is comprised of regulatory and registration managers from member-companies that review, discuss and determine an appropriate strategic and technical course of action on behalf of the crop protection industry concerning environmental and product registration issues that are deemed to possibly have an immediate and/or long-term regulatory impact on the crop protection industry in California, Arizona and Hawaii.

Transportation Committee

WPHA’s Transportation Committee monitors transportation issues associated with the safe handling and movement of agricultural substances from ports and railways to agricultural wholesale and retail facilities. WPHA offers ammonia safety training programs, keeps abreast of U.S. Homeland Security and California Air Resources Board issues related to transportation.

Environmental Site Committee

WPHA’s Environmental Site Committee monitors existing and proposed regulations and laws regarding the storage, handling and transportation of fertilizers and crop protection chemicals. It educates members on compliance issues that impact agricultural retailers and establishes working relationships among governmental agencies that establish and enforce compliance issues that impact WPHA members.

Water Quality Committee

The WQC is comprised of highly skilled environmental fate scientists and eco-toxicologists from member-companies that assess, discuss and determine an appropriate strategic and technical course of action on behalf of the crop protection industry concerning surface water, groundwater and sediment quality issues that are deemed to possibly have an immediate and/or long-term regulatory impact on the crop protection industry in California, Arizona and Hawaii.

Soil Improvement Committee

This committee focuses on agronomic practices which impact WPHA members. It promotes best management practices and promotes Integrated Pest Management and stewardship programs. The committee is comprised of agronomists, research scientists and plant nutrient practitioners. The Soil Improvement Committee hosts four nutrient education seminars each year; provides expertise, as needed, to regulatory agencies and legislators; writes and edits the various editions of the Western Fertilizer Handbook and sponsors six student dinners at universities encouraging students to consider a career in agriculture.
