The Western Plant Health Association acknowledges the 2023 Air Monitoring Report from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). The report found no detectable pesticides above health-protective levels at any of the four monitoring stations in high pesticide-use areas, including Oxnard, Santa Maria, Shafter, and Watsonville.
DPR tested for 40 different pesticides and conducted 8,085 analyses, evaluating air quality in 1,228 communities. The results highlight our member companies and the agricultural community’s continued diligence and commitment and the thousands of hours they devote to rigorous training and safety protocols.
Renee Pinel, President/CEO of the Western Plant Health Association, stated:
“This report reaffirms that the collaborative efforts between California’s agricultural community and DPR yield positive results. Our farmers work tirelessly to ensure the safety and protection of our food supply and our communities. The fact that no results exceeded health-protective levels shows that California farmers continue to lead the nation in safe pesticide use.”
The report highlighted that 95% of samples showed no detectable pesticides, while those detected remained well below regulatory targets. This success demonstrates the agriculture industry’s commitment to safe, sustainable practices.
As we move forward, we will continue to work alongside DPR, ensuring that California’s agriculture system thrives while maintaining public safety.
